Sign in, check your servers, and get real-time alerts without opening a browser. Here's exactly what the RackWorks Android app does today.
An App, Not Just a Bookmark
Most VPS providers hand you a web control panel and call it a day. If you want to check on a server, you open a browser, find the tab, log in, and wait for the dashboard to load. It works, but it is not built for a phone in your pocket.
The RackWorks Android app is our answer to that: a native app, available on Google Play, that gives you a real way to keep an eye on your infrastructure from your phone. It is not a wrapped version of the website. It talks to the same backend as the client portal, using its own sign-in system, so it works like an app should: fast to open, and built to notify you instead of waiting for you to check.
Why We Built It
A server does not wait for business hours to have a problem. A VM can max out its CPU, a disk can fill up, or a card on file can fail to charge, and none of that cares whether you happen to have a laptop open. The app exists so you can find out about the things that matter without leaving your web browser open to the portal all day.
Signing In
The app uses your existing RackWorks account. There is no separate signup and no separate password to manage: your email and password from the client portal work in the app, including two-factor authentication if you have it enabled. Every sign-in registers that device to your account, and you can review and revoke that access at any time from Account settings in the client portal, the same place you would manage any other login session.
What You Can Actually Do From the App
The core of the app is straightforward VPS management:
- See the list of services on your account and their current status
- Start, stop, and reboot a server
- Watch live resource usage, including CPU and bandwidth, without SSHing in or loading the full portal
This is deliberately the same server-side logic behind the client portal's own power controls and usage charts, just built for a phone screen. Press reboot, and it is the same request the portal would send.
Alerts That Come to You
The part that does not have a web-portal equivalent is push notifications. Instead of refreshing a dashboard, the app can tell you when something changes:
- VM power events: a notification when a server you manage starts, stops, or reboots
- Resource alerts: a push when a server's CPU or another monitored metric crosses a threshold you would want to know about, and another when it recovers
- Security alerts: a heads-up when a device is logged out of your account, so an unexpected one stands out
- Billing alerts: notice when an invoice is generated, and, more importantly, when a card on file fails to charge
That last one matters more than it sounds. A failed charge you catch on your phone the same day is a quick card update. A failed charge you find out about a week later, from a suspension notice, is a much worse afternoon.
Your Account, Not a Separate One
Everything the app shows you comes from the same account and the same data as the RackWorks client portal. There is nothing to keep in sync and nothing that only exists on one side. If you install an app stack, resize a plan, or update your profile from the browser, the app reflects it. The phone is a second way in, not a second copy of your account.
